After turning himself in to law enforcement on Sunday afternoon, Maurice Watson Jr. will be appearing in court on Monday. A bail hearing, although currently unscheduled as far as time of day goes, will be occurring following Watson’s booking and processing at the Douglas County Jail on Sunday, per the Omaha World-Herald’s linked report above.
Another tidbit that the OWH’s report from Sunday evening provides is with regards to Watson’s status as a student at Creighton University. The university had suspended him back on February 13 for “alleged actions that are contrary to University policies and core values” and made that suspension public last Wednesday. The suspension was related to all athletic-related activities.
As the OWH entails, the university has barred him from campus and he is not currently a student at the university (emphasis mine):
In a statement sent Sunday evening to faculty and staff, Creighton officials said Thursday’s arrest warrant had prompted a re-evaluation of Watson’s status. Given Creighton’s policies and the fact that the allegations against Watson came from another Creighton student, the statement concluded:
“At this time, Mr. Watson is banned from the Creighton University campus and is not currently enrolled as a student, meaning he is not attending classes or participating in activities on Creighton’s campus.”
Watson has been charged with first-degree sexual assault. His attorneys have denied any wrongdoing on behalf of their client.
