Star-divide

  • The biggest loser in the poll for this week was clearly one of our own: South Florida. Just when people were starting to get comfortable with them and take notice, they laid yet another egg on Thursday night. The beatdown from Pitt was brutal, but I couldn't see dropping them from the poll altogether. I think they're better than they showed against Pitt, but perhaps not quite as good as we'd hoped early on.
  • We left the top of the poll alone and will likely continue to do so until someone loses. The top seven or so are better, so much better, than the rest of the country.
  • Of course we totally expected to have two top ten teams from the ACC in October. And we totally expected them to be Clemson and Georgia Tech. Nevertheless, that's where we are. Clemson's set of wins over Auburn, a depleted FSU team, and Virginia Tech is as good as any other team and well worth a top ten ranking.
  • The game against Tennessee is beginning to look more and more of the outlier for Cincinnati and so we're happy to include them at 4-1 with a week off to prepare for Louisville. Butch Jones has things going in the right direction right now.
  • We've not hesitated to move teams up as they win and that certainly applies to Michigan, Illinois, and Arkansas for its miracle comeback against Texas A&M. Speaking of, it was quite easy to dump them after yet another meltdown in the fourth quarter.
