NYC Meets Kansas City. Big East needs to Build Bridge to the Plains.
The Big East needs make peace with Kansas City to land Kansas, K State, and Mizzou. If we do that we can move in the direction of having our own super conference to rival any in the nation but we need to act now.
From things I've read out of Kansas City there is apprehension about the city/region's place in college basketball if the Big 12 goes away. They are the long-term home of the Big 12 tournament and the cultural mecca of the sport in that part of the country. If John Marrinatto is serious about making the Big East into one of the elite conferences in the land he needs to let Mizzou, Kansas, and K State know that he'd be willing to have the Big East tournament rotate between Madison Square Garden to Kansas City's Sprint Center on an annual basis. I think this will allow the Big East to expand it's cultural and geographical appeal by showing that we understand that they are really passionate about college basketball and want this to be a partnership and not a hostile take over from the East Coast. I think that fans in Louisville, Cincinnati, and TCU also would not mind this. Hey, I'm a UConn fan from Hartford, CT and I wouldn't mind a change of pace from Pizza to BBQ every other year myself. In the era of the superconference we have to think nationally.
If the Big East is really serious they can let Baylor and Iowa State in as well and try to finally lure Notre Dame into the football fold and usher in the era of the super conference on the conference's own terms. With Notre Dame in for football we could possibly throw BC a lifeline and extend an invite to them to balance things on the East for football. That would easily be one of the most powerful conferences in the nation and it may actually be on it's way to happening.

Or there could be two Big East Tournaments and a Basketball Chamipionship game.
Sounds crazy but could revolutionalize college basketball. We all know expansion is all about football but it would be great if the Big East truly finds a way to break the mold in college basketball. A Big East Championship game in basketball would be a media bananza.

If the PAC 12 turns down OU
The Big East should go after both Oklahoma schools. Basically six out of the original Big 8 plus TCU and Baylor as your eight team Midwest division plus the current eight teams as your east division for football. 20 teams in basketball (and other sports) is a problem but not an insurmountable one.
Thank you Cliff Lee!
