Hello from Bronco Nation...

So this is sort of a feeler/introduction post from a fan of the Boise State Broncos.  It is starting to sound a lot more like my favorite team might be joining your conference as a "football only" member, which is weird because I am unaware of what else they could join as.

So, yeah...  This isn't probably the ideal situation for either your conference or my favorite team, but here we all are.  I think if you all add Air Force, Houston and SMU, then this deal will work out great.  It'll be pretty cool to be in a conference with two service academies.  And you have a better TV deal than our current conference, which is good.  And Boise State will help you guys keep your BCS bid, maybe, which is also good although it'd be nice to see the BCS collapse into a heaping pile of ruin that is also on fire and sinking into quicksand full of sharks.

I hope if your conference does invite Boise State that the members then do not all up and leave like happened last time we joined a new conference because this is kind of getting old and I'm starting to wish my school would just find a home already and maybe stay there for a while.  And I hope you guys are open to changing the name of the conference, because it is going to be weird being in the Big East.  Maybe even just put an asterisks behind it or something?  And please let us wear blue at home because that whole stunt by the Mountain West is probably the singular reason Boise State fans are so open to moving to another conference with members so far away.

Anyways, hello from a Boise State fan.  I hope this weird arranged marriage works out between us, if it does in fact occur.  And if it doesn't, good luck with all of the realignment crap and I hope you guys come out of this thing okay.

I like green grass, but I also support your use of blue grass. As a tradition, it helps distinguish you and thereby contribute to your respective conference.

A jovial and joyous welcome!

If it all stays together it could be a decent conference, but who knows…

"It'll be pretty cool to be in a conference with two service academies."

The knees of Big East DL strongly disagree with this statement.

Okay, well, I’m just gonna be over here laughing nervously about the fact that my first post on the Big East board about football is immediately answered by a post about the rough violence of football and how damaging it can be. Yeah… Well, thank you for the warm welcome, everyone. This is going to take some getting used to, for all of us. Unless it doesn’t happen.

I want to say welcome

I hope the BE give the invite and that things stabilize for a bit. I agree that a name change is order. Like the Coast to Coast Conference or something to that effect. All we need is a California school and we would be set.

Honestly I tend to want to reserve judgment until I know the present schools cote to up the exit fee and extend the invite. If they do I think this will be a cool conference.

Good luck!

I'm gonna go and and say...

…I hope the Big East enforces the MWC’s rule of BSU’s no blue at home rule. They’re good enough, they don’t need freaking camoflouge.

So it actually doesn't work like that...

Unless you believe that Kellen Moore sees his receivers through some sort of infrared vision or something, which actually might be true.

by Spyder Mayhem on Oct 14, 2025 6:05 PM EDT up reply actions

It sure does work like that

Kellen Moore has essentially spent five years practicing to see that blue on blue camouflage.

It's not a big deal for me, we blanked Fresno last year in all orange but I'll add some observations for you to discuss amongst yourselves if you like...

1. I used to be suspicious as well. I’m an amateur video editor and if I wanted to zoom in for a cut move it could be hard to see at times due to the blue on blue and the bird’s eye, 45 deg. angle we all see from TV. That’s with non-HD footage which a lot of past games at Bronco Stadium have been recorded in so film study may still be an issue. In HD there’s no issue at all, for me at least.

2. I’ve been on the field and I’ve also seen a lot of game pictures taken at field level. A) BSU ‘s uniforms are a completely different shade of blue than the field and it makes a visible difference. B) It’s the walls, sidelines, and crowds that would need to be the “camoflauge”. This is why Penn St. holds their “white outs”. The BACKGROUND is what players will or will not blend into from a player’s perspective.

3. Kellen defeated an Oregon team that went on to murder the PAC-10 and get a Rose Bowl in his 2nd season as a starter. Kellen went undefeated on that same turf in his first season and put up terrific numbers so this kind of puts a dent in the “he’s so experienced that he’s used to it argument”.

4. There’s quite a number of all green uniforms (plus helmets) out there on green fields. Oregon has run that combo before, hawaii has done it, and colorado st. to name a few. It’s a non-issue from a physical standpoint. Whether there’s a psychological difference or not I couldn’t say.

Like I said though, it doesn’t matter to me one way or the other, I don’t care what color our uniform is as long as we give 100% effort and perform to our potential. That’s enough for me. We’ve already shown that it doesn’t matter what color our uniform is, what stadium we’re playing at, or how imbalanced the crowd may be against us…this team will come out and kick people in the teeth regardless. So I don’t think it’s an issue one way or the other.

Its not a slight in any way.

I love your field and jerseys and don’t think the Big East should tell a team what color their jerseys should be (in fact I dislike the white away requirements too). The only silly thing in my eyes is the whole Boise trying to stop other colored fields. There is an advantage and you cant keep it to yourself. =)

You’re totally right about the surroundings playing a part. A couple of years ago we went from black uniforms to green uniforms at home (on a green field turf field) and put up a ring of green fabric on the formerly black chain link fence. Both play a role for sure. My QBs at first HATED it because they “couldn’t see the receivers” but it didn’t take to long for them to adjust. Green Helmets/Jerseys/Pants/Underarmor that matches our field turf and the fabric windbreak on the fence is a pretty awesome homefield advantage.

by Eroka on Oct 16, 2025 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Yep, from field to backdrop would do some serious damage I think, then throw in a crowd that did a green out

or, in our case, a blue out, and it would be a real advantage. Field by itself is nothing imo.

Boise St. keeping other teams from doing same; first I’ve heard of that. I am aware that the NCAA banned it for Division I-A and that BSU was grandfathered in as an exception. But I have no awareness of BSU playing any role whatsoever in keeping other teams from doing the same, that was all the NCAA to my knowledge. BSU has trademarked the font they use for their name and I think they trademarked the name “The Blue” for the field and that’s it.

Anyhoo, it’s a controversial subject and I get that. From my eyes and actually being on the field, it’s all misunderstanding. But I understand that the knee jerk reaction is to think it’s an advantage. We’ll see what happens.

Welcome!

The Big East is similar to most modern day American Families.

Its filled with love, hate, and dysfunction.

Another Boise fan here...

Please, please, please get this invite done! I’m sick of Hair Thompson, I’d like to avoid this clown-college merger, and I’m done with the Mountain West! At least the Big East really wants us… the snooty Mountain West waited until they legitimately started falling apart to invite us.

So Syracuse and Pitt just left the BE...

And a third team might be going, too… The Big East wants Boise State for the exact same reasons the MWC did.

Welcome.....maybe

I, for one, hope this new marriage does go through and the Broncos become a major part of the Big East going forward. I remain skeptical of the viability of he conference over the long haul but I would personally love to see this conference survive and I think Boise could be a major part of that.
Anyway, I have always admired you guys, have always rooted for you when you’ve played “the big boys” and would love to see you guys become the standard bearer for the conference in football. I also think that you could push some other programs to have to up the anti and get better over time, which would help solidify the conference even further.
Hopefully, all this happens fast so there can be some sense of normalcy that sets in.

I'm waiting to see what happens first but, should things go as expected right now, I will probably make a few posts to try and get some dialogue going.

The first topic I will address will be that of potential for this new look conference…we got it in spades if this thing comes together and no one else is offered greener pastures just yet. I know some discussion on this topic has taken place here already so I’ll just be continuing some points that have already been brought up.

Hope it all works out guys, we’re tentatively excited and believe we bring a lot to the table and can improve rapidly in the areas we lag in.

Hope to be talking to you again in a few days.
