The DePaul Blue Demons and St. John’s Red Storm are set to meet in The Windy City on this Valentine’s Day night. Don’t expect too much love to be shared by these two teams, though. Both DePaul and St. John’s are looking to climb their way out of the cellar in the Big East right now, making for an all-important showdown between these two for seeding in the Big East Tourney.

You may have heard by now that St. John’s is on a winning streak. The Red Storm have defeated the Duke Blue Devils, Villanova Wildcats and Marquette Golden Eagles in their last three contests. Shamorie Ponds, meanwhile, has showed out in a big way. Ponds recently dropped 44 points in the win over Marquette and was stellar in the wins against Duke and Villanova. What does he have in store in Chicago? Time will tell.

DePaul, meanwhile, bounced back from a three-game losing streak with a shocking win against the Providence Friars. The shock wasn’t so much in the victory (maybe it was a little bit) as much as the margin of victory. The Blue Demons punched the Friars in the mouth, winning 80-63 at The Dunk. It was DePaul’s biggest road victory in quite some time, considering the opponent. Marin Maric was the star in the win over Providence, as he scored 18 points on 5-6 shooting while going 8-8 from the free throw line. Maric also grabbed eight boards with two assists, two steals and a block.
