JaKarr Sampson's NBA dream did not become a reality the conventional way on Thursday night by being drafted, but his dream did come to fruition shortly after.
Sampson agreed to terms with the Philadelphia 76ers to play on their summer league basketball team following the 2014 NBA Draft. Zach Braziller of the New York Post had the report first.
Sampson averaged 12.8 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game, leading the St. John's Red Storm to an NIT birth.
"Toward the end and immediately following the conclusion of the draft, my agent received several calls from teams expressing their interest in having me play for them in Summer League," Sampson stated. "Seth went over all the team situations with me and we decided that the best opportunity for me was with the Philadelphia 76ers. I am looking forward to the opportunity, I will be ready and you can be sure I will make the most of it."
The former St. John's star knew there was a strong chance he would not be selected in the NBA Draft, not being projected to be picked in most mock drafts.
