Georgetown's D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera named Big East Preseason Player of the Year

The junior becomes the sixth player in Georgetown history to nab the honor.

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera was named Big East Preseason Player of the Year at Big East Media Day on Wednesday. He finished third in the Big East in scoring last season with 17.6 point per game, and was one of the few bright spots for a downtrodden Georgetown squad. Smith-Rivera was also the Big East's free throw percentage leader, knocking down 87.3% of his shots from the line last season.

He was also named to the Preseason All-Big East First Team, an improvement from last preseason during which he was on the All-Big East Second Team.
