Final Score: Creighton 81, DePaul 62

The Creighton Bluejays walked in and out of The Windy City with a victory over the DePaul Blue Demons, but may have lost a key contributor as well.

Creighton earned their 3rd victory in BIG EAST Conference play with an 81-62 victory over DePaul. The Bluejays went through a grind to earn this victory as the Blue Demons did not go away for much of the first half. But, a 15-6 from the 15:58 mark to the 9:44 mark catapulted Creighton to their 13th victory on the season. DePaul was sent back to .500 with the hard-fought loss.

Creighton was aided by an unlikely hero on Tuesday evening. Avery Dingman, who came into the night averaging just 2.2 points per game exploded for 16 points in 18 minutes. Dingman, a junior guard from Branson, Mo. shot 6-of-8 from the 3-point line and was a catalyst for the Bluejays who were in need of a spark off of the bench. Meanwhile, Blue Demon guard Brandon Young led the team with 24 points.

The big storyline on the game however is the health of two key Creighton Bluejays. Doug McDermott and Grant Gibbs both sustained injuries in this contest. While McDermott stayed on the floor for 35 minutes and finished his night with 19 points, despite tweaking an already banged up shoulder, Gibbs' night ended after just 12 minutes of action. He sustained what appeared to be a knee injury, and did not return for the second half. He has an MRI scheduled for tomorrow on that knee.

Creighton now shifts their focus to the Xavier Musketeers, who they will host on Sunday. DePaul, meanwhile, will still look for consistency when they battle with the Butler Bulldogs on Thursday at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
