Big East Interested in Playing Football Conference Championship Game at Yankee Stadium
Commissioner John Marinatto stated today that he'd like to have the football championship for the Big East played at Yankee Stadium. Apparently, the Yankee organization is also interested in such a plan. I think it is a bad idea for the same reason that a neutral site ACC title game is a bad idea: poor attendance. What do you think?

IF there is ever a Big East championship game
Play it at the home field of the higher seed (as the smart guys in the PAC-12 are doing.
West Virginia fans hate everybody. They remember every snub and joke and bit of snark. And they never forgive, and they never, ever forget. In other words, they're a lot like West Virginians in general.

Unless the zombie Big East ends up far less spread out than it seems it will be
Or than it would have been, then that’s the only reasonable option.
The ACC is actually okay in Charlotte for now, though I think it ought to move to Baltimore once SU & Pitt join (DC would be better, but FedEx is huge and would never sell out unless Virginia Tech was in the game). Baltimore, DC, and Charlotte are the NFL stadiums within driving range of most ACC fans. Atlanta hits a lot, but is already being used by the SEC even if it wasn’t much too far for the northeastern contingent. Jax and Tampa never made any sense.

Good ACC ideer
Either Fedex (near DC) or M&T (Baltimore) would be great for the ACC championship once Syracuse & Pitt are in the conference.
Another potential advantage for Baltimore is the airport. BWI is a hub for Southwest Airlines and has cheap nonstop flights up and down the east coast. If folks don’t want to drive, they have a cheap flying option. DC’s major airports (Reagan and Dulles) aren’t very far away either for the longer-distance folks.
I could even see Southwest running “ACC Championship specials” between Baltimore and the championship team’s cities.

Yeah, that's a non-solution there lol
Currently holds 34,000 and is isolated from vast majority of conference. Since Yankee Stadium is in such a huge metropolitan area, what do you guys think the chances are that it sells out regardless?
I think ticket pricing would be the biggest factor and those prices can be set based upon the expected interest. I know BSU already has a contingent of fans in the NYC area so the potential for national foolowings are in play as well.

From what I recall from Brian Bennett's stint as Big East blogger for ESPN
part of the hesitancy for putting a bowl game in NYC for the past (two?) decades was that it could be cost-prohibitive, and in a city with a decided pro bent.
With the Pinstripe Bowl already a destination for a Big East team, is it smart to also play the final game of the regular season there as well? The team that comes in second place could end up playing back in Yankee Stadium two weeks later.

No. It's not smart at all
In fact it’s quite stupid. Which all but guarantees it’s at the top of Marinatto’s to-do list.

The New Yankee Stadium...
would be kind of cool to play a BE championship game. It seems like people like the whole college football in a baseball stadium thing. I say try it for a few years and see how it works. Can’t be worse than the ACC championship game in Tampa when VT played BC. Boy did those fans travel well ;-)

College football and Yankee Stadium
go like peanut better and pineapple…..the same could be said for the Northeast in general. Playing a Big East conference championship anywhere besides the higher seed’s home will produce headlines about the lack of interest. The Northeast is college b-ball, baseball, football and every other sport w/ the exception of college football.
Chris Russo, ESPN, Mike Lupica…….NONE of them talk college football. On Monday morning, ESPN radio programming is ALL NFL (and that’s not a bad thing)
Here’s what the Big East Championship would look like….

I totally understand that it’s a baseball stadium and likely only holds 35-45 K but that will be even worse showing empty seats in a small stadium.

That's because there's no one to talk about currently.
A couple years ago, when Rutgers was making splashes, the talk was starting to pick up. Decades ago, when Jim Brown and Ernie Davis were running the ball down everyone’s throat for the Orange, there was a ton of hype in the northeast.
People get excited over success and that’s what the NE needs in order to see a resurggence of support.

There's no reason to not hold it on campus
Yankee Stadium is too far from everyone but Rutgers and UConn to ensure a packed house every year.

Isn't there anywhere in Providence we can play it?

Marinatto's house.
But he will insist on scheduling it three years late each season. And only if there is a consensus among Seton Hall, Providence, Georgetown, and St. Johns.

hahahahah
It would certainly be sad for Pittsburgh to see WVU and Boise sell out Heinz Field, the day after Pitt draws in a nice 8,000 for a game against Wake Forest.

The New York City area and Houston are probably good candidates
The former could work, but not in Yankee stadium. A better option would be the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ, with a more pro-football audience than the Bronx.

I think it'd well attended
If UConn or Rutgers made the game and was playing Boise St. Something like USF vs. Houston? Not so much…

I like a title game
I suggested it in my blog post months ago. But holdng it in NYC is the height of stupidity. That idea is a wonderful window into why the conference is failing. This group of NYC-centric bball heads cannot wrap their heads around the fact that NYC might not be the center of the universe for every aspect of life. It makes for a great bball tournament, but THIS IS NOT BASKETBALL!! Every word Marinatto uttered was a further indictment of his absentee leadership that’s doomed the conference to irrelevance at best and destruction at worst.

Correct,
And even the “less glamorous” New Jersey is a better place to showcase football-including college-than New York City.

Not to make a completely tidal shift away from the Big East but
HAVE THE GAME IN TEXAS. It won’t be snowing, and the flights are cheap.

How about having the championship game in Qatar?
Probably get about the same crowd as at Yankee Stadium.
