Expansion Rumor - Houston to BE?
I know, I know. The last thing we need is more Big East expansion rumors/talk, but I thought I'd share anyways. I was listening to Kevin Rogers on Sporting News Radio between six and seven EDT and he made a passing mention of the University of Houston to the Big East. No idea if he (Rogers) had any actual info to base his comment on or if it was just idle conjecture on his part as part of some general UH talk - SNR operates out of Houston.
From a personal standpoint, I could get on board with Houston as a Big East member. Houston's a huge television market, which the television execs will like, it gets the conference more exposure into Texas and Houston's had good to great teams in football and basketball. Plus, for the non revenue sports it would work from a travel standpoint to have two teams to play out that way on road trips instead of one. UCF would work from this standpoint as well with USF, but assuming that Villanova is off the table for football I'd rather add another Texas school rather than another Florida school.

If it is between UCF and Houston
Guess which one would make Mengus need a straitjacket?

To be honest.....
Houston really isn’t a great addition. Small stadium, minimal support in Texas.

If there were great additions available...
… except via the Big 12 imploding or bribing BC to come back, we’d have added them already. If we don’t want to gamble on something like that, Houston might be less bad than other options (certainly better than ECU or Memphis).

Houston has the most potential
of the bunch currently under consideration and has history in both major revenue sports. They are planning to build a new stadium now so I don’t see that as a problem since they would basically be hitting the lottery by getting into a BCS league such as the BE. I could definitely get on board with adding Houston now as an all sports member if they can get the Basketball schools to go along with it.

They're 'planning' to build a new stadium
When they’re actually building a new stadium (AFAIK, their new stadium plans keep getting delayed) — and not a UCF-style tinkertoy set of a stadium — they’ll have a much better case.

In the Big East. I would love it.

On Houston
The Big East doesn’t need another Texas team- TCU has given them a bit of Texas. Houston is guarenteed to give them close to nothing as far as television goes.
This can also be used why non-powerhouse schools will not join some conferences. This is why Louisville will never join the SEC. Why TCU will never join the Big 12. It just brings the conference almost nothing in terms of revenue.
