New Cat on the Block: 2022 5-star small forward Cam Whitmore commits to Villanova

Jay Wright inks his third recruit in the class of 2022

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-East Regional-Villanova vs Texas Tech Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Hall of fame head coach Jay Wright has done it again!

2022 5-star small forward Cam Whitmore has committed to Villanova. Whitemore chose the WIldcats over a final list of programs that included UNC and Illinois.

Whitmore, a Severn, Maryland native, averaged 22.0 points and 12 rebounds per game in his junior year at Archbishop Spalding High School. The wing is a proficient scorer at all three levels, a tenacious defender, and a high motor athlete. He has been described as a ‘program-changing talent’ by Prep Hoops Maryland scout Colby Giacubeno, and it would not be surprising if we watched him grow into a lottery pick talent by the end of his tenure on the Main Line.

Currently, Villanova rounds out 247sports.com’s Top-25 2022 Recruiting Class Rankings, but with the addition of Whitmore, Villanova is projected to vault into the top ten. This is Villanova’s fourth five-star recruit in as many years and only their eleventh of all-time. Whitmore will join a pair of four-star guards in the likes of Mark Armstrong and Brendan Hausen, to create a very impressive core going into next season.

Who’s next for the Wildcats? Villanova currently does not have any other offers out, but that does not mean Jay Wright and his team are done recruiting. I would look for the team to target another forward or center in the coming weeks.
