One of Omaha’s own is staying home. Class of 2019 point guard Shereef Mitchell announced earlier this week that he had committed to play for Greg McDermott and the Creighton Bluejays. The rising senior at Burke High School announced his commitment on his Twitter account back on Thursday:

While not listed on 247Sports Composite, 247Sports’ standalone recruiting service lists Mitchell as a three-star recruit at this juncture. He is ranked 141st in the nation as of right now in 2019 and 14th among all point guards in the cycle. As far as Nebraska recruits go, there are currently none better than Shereef.

The Bluejays beat out a host of teams for Mitchell, including the Bradley Braves, Loyola-Chicago Ramblers, South Dakota State Jackrabbits and the UC Davis Aggies.

Shereef Mitchell is the first commit for Greg McDermott’s 2019 recruiting class. Recruiting has been going well for McDermott and the Jays in the last two seasons, as his 2017 class ranked 25th in the nation and 3rd in the Big East while the 2018 class ranked 40th and 4th, respectively.
