Dawson Garcia is going down to Chapel Hill.
The now-former Marquette Golden Eagles forward will continue his basketball career for the North Carolina Tar Heels. Garcia, who was an impact freshman for the Golden Eagles, announced the move on his Instagram page:
Garcia averaged 13.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in the truncated 2020-21 season. He also averaged 48 percent from the field, posted an eFG% of 53.2 percent and a TS% of 58.0 percent. He ranked third in Big East play in OR% and 19th in D$%, proving to be an effective rebounder to say the very least. He also knew how to draw fouls, earning an FTRate of 46.1 percent, third-best in Big East play.
Needless to say, UNC is getting a very high-quality player. The Golden Eagles will surely miss him and the impact he provides, and head into this coming season with some uncertainty now. Garcia’s transfer coupled with Theo John’s transfer to the Duke Blue Devils certainly hits them hard, but that’s a story for another day.
Best of luck to Dawson Garcia with UNC!
