Creighton’s Zegarowski named preseason Big East POY, Marquette’s Garcia top freshman; preseason All-Big East teams announced

The Big East announced its preseason individual awards, as well as its all-Big East teams.

The Big East announced some individual preseason awards on Wednesday, as well as its preseason All-Big East teams.

The Creighton BluejaysMarcus Zegarowski was named Big East preseason Player of the Year, after averaging 16.1 points, 3.8 boards, and 5.0 assists per game as a sophomore last season.

Meanwhile, Marquette’s Dawson Garcia is the Big East preseason Freshman of the Year, after a McDonald’s All-American season at Prior Lake High School in Minnesota. He averaged 31.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, and scored over 2,000 career points.
