The Georgetown Hoyas are going to the NCAA Tournament!

For the first time since 2015, the Hoyas are into the Big Dance following Saturday’s 73-48 win over the Creighton Bluejays in the Big East Tournament final.

The game was competitive for all of 15 minutes, when Creighton tied the game at 18 after a Marcus Zegarowski jumper. From that point on, the Bluejays didn’t score again in the half. Jahvon Blair scored the next eight points, and the Hoyas continued the run from there, taking a 36-18 lead into the half.

The second half was even more punishment from the Hoyas, as they showed the same ferocity and consistency they’ve shown all weekend. Chudier Bile finished with 19 points, leading the Hoyas. Blair added 18, while Qudus Wahab notched the double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Dante Harris, who would go on to be named the Tournament’s most outstanding player, rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points.

Creighton’s tumultuous couple weeks continued, as the Bluejays continued to look less than cohesive. How the Bluejays respond in the NCAA Tournament will be fascinating to watch. Marcus Zegarowski led Creighton with 17 points.

On March 13, 1972, Georgetown hired John Thompson Jr. On March 13, 2021, Thompson’s best-ever player and protege led the Hoyas back to the NCAA Tournament.
