Creighton effortlessly defeated Butler in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals.

The Bluejays rolled to an 87-56 victory on Thursday evening. The win in New York City assures the Jays of a spot in the semifinals, where they will face either DePaul or UConn on Friday night.

Marcus Zegarowski, Damien Jefferson, and Christian Bishop led the way for the Jays. The trio combined to score 42 of the 87 points scored in Thursday’s blowout win. The trio also combined to shoot 18-for-27 from the field. This was all part of a prodigious day for the Jays, as they shot 62.5 percent from the field and 54.2 percent from 3, where they made 13 buckets.

Antwann Jones, Denzel Mahoney, and Shereef Mitchell all scored eight points apiece in the rout. Alex O’Connell and Ryan Kalkbrenner each dropped in six points, while Andrew Merfield, Devin Davis, and Sami Osmani each scored two.

So ends a disappointing season for the Butler Bulldogs. Obviously, perspective is as important now than it has ever been. But, this certainly wasn’t the best year for the Dawgs on the court. Whatever 2021 should bring to them this coming fall, it should hopefully go better than this time.

For the Bluejays, they’re on to the semifinals. They’ll either play UConn or DePaul, depending on how the final quarterfinal goes. A Creighton-UConn matchup screams fascination, so we’ll see if that is indeed how this goes.
