St. John’s and Seton Hall are teed up to face off in the Big East Tournament. The 4- and 5-seeds in this year’s conference tourney will meet in a matchup to face the winner of Villanova-Georgetown. Thus, whoever wins this one could be one step closer toward making the Big East Tournament final.

These two teams met in the season finale this past Saturday. On that night, St. John’s overcame an 18-0 deficit and won by 10 points. The Pirates are looking for some revenge from that encounter, and hopefully to avenge those mistakes that doomed them. Seton Hall won the earlier matchup between the two, 77-68, all the way back in December. So this will be considered the ‘rubber match’ between the two teams.

St. John’s has an advantage on the perimeter in this game. The Pirates' defense from deep is lacking, as they rank 315th in the nation in 3-point percentage allowed. They’re also last in the Big East this conference season in 3-point defense, while the Red Storm rank 3rd in 3-point offense. The Pirates also haven’t done so well offensively from the perimeter either. So if St. John’s gets it going from deep, Seton Hall will be facing an uphill battle all day.

Seton Hall will simply have to try and exploit the interior defense issues that St. John’s possesses. The Red Storm rank 10th out of 11 in 2-point defense while the Pirates are 4th in the conference on offense. They also have the second-best 2-point defense in the conference, so they could pose a threat on both ends of the floor from inside.

Time will tell to see how this one plays out. Both these teams are pretty evenly matched statistically, so it’s anyone’s guess as to who comes out on top. It should also be noted that Isaih Moore is out of this game due to contact tracing issues.
