The #13 Creighton Bluejays (17-5, 13-4) look to push their win streak to five straight games Saturday evening when they take on the Xavier Musketeers (12-5, 5-5) in Cincinnati.
The teams’ first meeting of the season saw Creighton come away with a 66-61 victory on December 23. Xavier got out to a big lead in the early goings before Creighton stormed back for the win behind a balanced scoring attack that saw four Bluejays record double-digit scoring.
Creighton has been on a roll for the past month. After dropping back to back games to Butler and Providence near the end of January, the Bluejays have gone 7-1, with just a loss to Georgetown on their record. Part of what makes the Bluejays so good is the fact that they have four players in the top 25 in the Big East in scoring, as Marcus Zegarowski, Denzel Mahoney, Damien Jefferson, and Christian Bishop all average at least 11.9 points per game, and that doesn’t account for Mitch Ballock, who is one of the Big East’s most accurate three-point shooters.
For Xavier, consistency has been a problem since returning from their COVID pause. The Musketeers are just 1-3 since returning to play on February 13. Zach Freemantle has excelled, though, recording a double-double in all four games.
The Musketeers will be without Nate Johnson, they announced Saturday.
