GAME PREVIEW

The Georgetown Hoyas host Butler Saturday afternoon in a rematch of their January 6 meeting. They’re coming off a difficult stretch of their schedule in which they played Providence, Villanova, and Creighton (X2) and managed to go 2-2. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are coming off a big win over St. John’s.

In the previous contest between these two, Georgetown jumped out to a big lead, but let it slip away as Butler’s freshman phenom Chuck Harris put on a show. The Bulldogs also defended the perimeter well, limiting Jahvon Blair to 4/16 shooting.

The Hoyas have been playing better of late, though their offense was stymied by Creighton in their most recent game – Georgetown managed just 48 points and shot an abysmal 27.6% from the field.

The Bulldogs, meanwhile, are at a high point in their roller coaster season. After beating DePaul, the Dawgs upset St. John’s behind 19 points from Bryce Nze and a double-double from Aaron Thompson.

Like the last meeting between the two teams, this one will likely be decided out on the perimeter. Georgetown will have an advantage inside; Qudus Wahab will be the best post player in the game, but the Hoyas will need Blair and Jamorko Pickett to play better than they did on January 6 to win this one. Butler will look to stifle them again with Thompson and Bo Hodges defending.

Everything indicates this should be an evenly matched contest. The two teams are ranked #98 and #99 in KenPom and both have shown glimpses of brilliance but have struggled with consistency. Both have a good mix of established veterans and emerging stars. This one could go down to the wire!
