Big East Conference will postpone all fall sports

The announcement, which comes as no surprise, was made on Thursday night.

Marquette v Butler

The Big East announced Thursday night that the conference, along with all 10 institutions, has postponed all fall sports competitions.

In a release from the conference, the Big East revealed that they plan to “assess alternative options to stage fall sports competitions during the spring of 2021.”

Among the sports affected by these postponements are men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball. Also, any fall competitions for non-traditional sports such as baseball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, softball and men’s and women’s tennis won’t occur either. Furthermore, student-athletes will be able to participate in team activities like practices, etc. under policies enforced by the campuses, conference regulations, public health guidelines and the NCAA regulations, as well.

According to the release, any decisions on winter and spring sports “will be made at a later time.”
