Arguably the greatest Hoya ever is finally getting a head coaching gig.

Our friends at Casual Hoya are reporting that former Georgetown Hoyas great Patrick Ewing is the next coach of the Hoyas.

Ewing of course is arguably the best player ever to suit up for the Hoyas and an absolute icon at the university and a Basketball Hall of Famer to boot. He has enjoyed a lengthy career in coaching following his successful pro career, working as an assistant in the NBA since 2002. He’d made stops at the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic and the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets, where he currently checks in as an associate head coach under Steve Clifford.

His name has always seemed to be tossed around to get a head coaching job. And now, in 2017, it appears he will be finally getting to fill that position.

This is obviously very exciting and enticing news for the Georgetown fanbase as they look to pivot away from the unfortunate end of the John Thompson III era. The next step will be seeing who Ewing hires as assistant coaches, but for now, we’re left with this major news.

Let’s react, shall we?
