Providence is chasing two players very hard in the class of 2017. One is big man Nate Watson. He has the Friars in his final four and is scheduled to visit the Rhode Island campus the weekend of September 10th. The other target is point guard Makai Ashton-Langford. He is down to two: Providence and UConn. The Huskies were supposed to get the first visit this upcoming weekend with the Friars scheduled to get the Worcester, MA native on their campus the weekend of September 17th. With rumors swirling that Ashton-Langford was leaning towards committing to UConn on his visit this weekend, the Friars seem to have pushed the Mass Rivals guard to get him to Friartown ahead of his UConn trip. That worked and multiple sources have told me that Ashton-Langford is expected on Providence’s campus as early as 1pm today. The Friars will get their chance to pitch Ashton-Langford before he drives down to Storrs, CT this weekend.

This is big news for the Friars who haven’t had a commitment from a top-35 recruit since Top-20 recruits Kris Dunn and Ricky Ledo both pledged to Ed Cooley in the class of 2012. The Friars already have a commitment from Top-150 center Dajour Dickens.
