DePaul reveals 2016 nonconference schedule, matchups vs. Temple, Northwestern headline as well as Gavitt Games matchup vs. Rutgers

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

THe DePaul Blue Demons revealed their 2016 nonconference schedule in a press release issued out on Thursday morning. The Blue Demons, seeking their first above .500 season in 10 years, have a few tall tasks in front of them when they take the floor later this year in the fall and winter before Big East play begins.

The matchups that stand out most are against both Temple and Northwestern. THe Owls have consistently been a solid team from the Atlantic 10 over the years and are of course no strangers to Big East play either. Temple is part of the Philadelphia Big Five and plays Villanova on an annual basis. This matchup is locked in for December 10 as part of the Hoophall Miami Invitational.

The in-state encounter with the Wildcats is set to take place on December 3 in Evanston. It’s the second of five meetings planned between the two Chicago-area schools over the next few years, the first coming last year when Northwestern defeated DePaul in Rosemont. This time, DePaul will be looking to return the favor at Welsh Ryan Arena.

As it was already established weeks prior, DePaul will be facing the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in the second-annual Gavitt Games. The Blue Demons have been part of both editions of the event as they faced the Penn State Nittany Lions in the inaugural edition last season in State College.

The full schedule, included here, sees matchups looming with Milwaukee, Drake, Lamar, UIC, SE Missouri State and Wyoming among others.
