Marquette to host 2017 Big East Women's Basketball Tournament

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

On Wednesday, the Big East Conference announced that the Al McGuire Center on the campus of Marquette University will play host to the 2017 Big East Conference Women's Basketball Tournament.

2017 will mark the first time that Marquette has hosted the conference tournament, which is slated to take place from March 4-7. Previously, the event had been held at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois in 2014 and 2015 and then McGrath-Phillips Arena this past season. The event had also been held annually at the Hartford Civic Center in Connecticut when UConn was a representative of the Big East from 2006-2013.

This transition is an easy one to make as far as travel goes. Milwaukee isn't too far from the Chicago suburbs - about 90 minutes on I-94 - and serves as a good hub. The Al McGuire Center is a stout venue that will certainly play well to its visitors in the upcoming year. Plus, Milwaukee is a quality city as well and Marquette will likely play as a good host to the tournament.
