Providence releases 2016-17 nonconference schedule

The Friars will face some old friends, and make some new foes.

The Providence Friars have announced their full 2016-17 nonconference schedule, becoming the first Big East team to do such this season.

The schedule is highlighted by a Gavitt Games matchup at Ohio State, the Emerald Coast Classic against Memphis and one of Iowa or Virginia, and games against local foes Brown, Rhode Island, Boston College, and Massachusetts.

The Friars have excelled in nonconference play under Ed Cooley. In his five seasons at the helm, Providence is 51-12 in the nonconference portion of their schedule, including 37-1 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

Providence will open the season at home against Vermont on November 14. The full schedule can be found below.
