Per Marquette athletics, the Marquette Golden Eagles will be squaring off the Vanderbilt Commodores to kick off the 2016-17 season as part of the Veterans Classic.
The event, in its third year, will take place at The Naval Academy east of both schools in Annapolis, Maryland. MU and Vandy are two of four schools participating in this event, as the Navy Midshipmen and the Ohio State Buckeyes comprise the quartet who are set to play on November 11, 2016.
The set of games will be televised on CBS Sports Network per the network's Twitter account.
Since the 1949-50 season, MU and Vandy have met three times per Sports-Reference.com, with the Commodores proving to be victorious in two of the last three meetings. Two of those last three meetings have occurred this decade as the two teams faced off in 2010 and 2011. Both occurrences saw Vanderbilt come away with victories to the tune of 77-76 and 74-57 in the most recent encounter in 2011.
The only MU win came back in 1974 when a No. 7 ranked Golden Eagles squad knocked off a No. 6 ranked Commodores squad 69-61. That season, of course, saw MU, led by Al McGuire, go all the way to the National Championship Game.
