Creighton vs. Xavier: Game time, TV schedule, odds and more

Can Creighton pull off the huge upset against Xavier?

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

After their gigantic win over Villanova, the Xavier Musketeers came out against Seton Hall in their next game and completely laid an egg in that game. Although they only lost by nine, Xavier were blown out by Seton Hall and it wasn't a close game until it's dying moments. It was a very poor showing from a team that a week earlier, beat the #1 team in the country. The loss snapped their four game winning streak and dropped Xavier to 25-4 overall with a 13-4 conference record as they remained 2nd in the BIG EAST standings. A win or a loss against Creighton won't change their place in the standings, though, as Xavier has clinched the 2nd seed in the BIG EAST tournament. They are currently sitting on the outside of #1 seed contention in the NCAA Tournament but that can all change with winning the BIG EAST Tournament. A win against Creighton can give the X momentum as they head to MSG next week.

While Xavier may have their seeding in the BIG EAST tournament all settled out, the Creighton Bluejays do not. After their 70-66 loss to Providence midweek, Creighton now has an overall record of 18-12 with a 9-8 conference record. It was a disappointing loss for Creighton as they held a lead late into the game only to have Ben Bentil and the Friars snatch the win away from them. The Bluejays now sit in a three-way tie for 4th place with Providence and Butler. It will be high stakes for the Bluejays as a win could get them a third seed in the BIG EAST tournament but a loss could drop them to 7th as Marquette is only a game back with a conference record of 8-9. This is a huge game for Creighton as a good BIG EAST tournament could sneak them into the NCAA tournament.

This will be the final regular season games for both teams.

Three things to watch

1. Senior Nght motivation

With their spot in the BIG EAST Tournament all but settled, it would be easy to question Xavier's motivation heading into this game as a result doesn't change anything. But it's Senior Night for X, and it will be the last game for a couple of key players. Look for Xavier to bring it as the Cintas Center will be rocking.

2. Battle of the guards

It will be a big time battle at the guard spot as Trevon Bluiett will take on Maurice Watson Jr in this game, assuming Watson takes the floor, which Greg McDermott said is likely. Each are the leading scorers for their respective teams as Bluiett leads Xavier with 15.1 points per game average and Watson Jr. scores around 14.7 for Creighton. Both are crucial to their teams offenses especially Watson Jr. as he leads his teams in assists as well.

3. High scoring affair?

Both teams score around an average of 80 points per game so expect a lot of offense in this game. Xavier will have the upper hand in this game however as they not only average more points per game (80.4) but they have better scorers on the team. Each team has four players averaging double digit points so the key will come down to bench scoring or a surprise player going off in this game (J.P. Macura maybe??)
