After leading Providence to three straight NCAA tournament appearances, and coaching the school to their first win in said tournament since 1997, it was only a matter of time before Ed Cooley received a contract extension.
On Tuesday, that time was here, as Cooley was signed to a "long-term contract extension".
How long of term? Well, no one really knows. The Providence athletic department didn't specify a number of years, saying instead, "We are thrilled that Ed will be a Friar for life".
Prior to Cooley's hiring in 2011, the Friars had finished over .500 just three times since 2002. Under Cooley, they've already reached that mark four times.
Kevin McNamera notes that Cooley and his wife will donate $500,000 to the Ruane Friar Development Center.
