Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

After an entertaining first half with plenty of back and forth action, Marquette leads 6th ranked Xavier 39-35. The Musketeers took the an early lead, but a 17-1 run by Marquette gave them a lead at the 9:46 mark, which they have yet to relinquish

Here's everything you need to know about what went down in the first twenty minutes of play:

Marquette

  • Haanif Cheatham and Henry Ellenson lead the Golden Eagles with 10 points each. Cheatham has yet to miss a shot, shooting 3-for-3 from the floor, and 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
  • Cheatham does find himself in foul trouble, earning three personals in the first twenty minutes.
  • Marquette surprisingly holds the rebounding advantage against this physical Xavier team, by a margin of 17-13. Henry Ellenson leads the team with seven boards.
  • The Golden Eagles hold the small halftime lead despite 10 first half turnovers, an area they will surely need to tighten up if they want to pull off the upset.

Xavier

  • Despite the score, the Musketeers are playing impressive team offense, with 11 assists on their 14 made field goals.
  • Freshman point guard Edmond Sumner leads the game with 15 points, shooting 6-for-9 from downtown.
  • James Farr, who dominated Marquette in their first matchup, has gotten off to a slow start in this contest. The senior big man has only two points, while turning the ball over twice and earning two fouls.
