Marquette vs. Seton Hall halftime notes

The Golden Eagles and Pirates are playing a big game in Newark with NCAA Tourney implications.

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The Seton Hall Pirates are in front of the Marquette Golden Eagles after 20 minutes of action in The Garden State. The Pirates lead the Golden Eagles 34-31 at the break, though Marquette made headway towards the conclusion of the period after trailing 29-20 with 5:28 to play.

Luke Fischer has struggled in regards to efficiency but the big man has 11 points on 50.0 percent shooting (5-10 FG) at the end of the first half. Fisch added four rebounds and three assists for his trouble, helping Marquette down low against a usually stifling Seton Hall defense. Henry Ellenson has been snuffed out somewhat in terms of points with just four at the half, but has seven rebounds to help out in another area.

Seton Hall meanwhile has gotten by with balance. Three players - Derrick Gordon, Angel Delgado and Isaiah Whitehead- have scored seven or more points with Delgado and Gordon each having eight while 'Z' has seven. Whitehead, though, left the game late in the first half after suffering what appeared to be a leg or knee injury. We'll keep you posted re: his status in the game going forward.

It hasn't been a good day from the perimeter for either team. Marquette and Seton Hall combined to shoot 4-for-17 from the perimeter.

SHU has 24 of their 34 points in the paint while Marquette has 16 of their 31 from that area of the floor.
