Rodney Bullock and Justin Patton have won the Big East Player and Freshman of the Week awards.
The Providence forward and Creighton center were honored for outstanding performances last week on Monday by the Big East Conference. Both the Friars and Bluejays went 2-0 last week, and they can thank Bullock and Patton for their contributions in helping to lead them to victory.
Rodney Bullock was especially dynamic in the Friars’ victory over New Hampshire last Wednesday. The Hampton, Virginia native scored 36 points while shooting a crisp 12-for-21 from the field and 7-for-11 from the free throw line, adding in six rebounds, three assists and three steals to what was an exceptional night at the office. He followed that up with a 17-point, 5-rebound, 1-steal effort in Providence’s win over rival Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon.
Justin Patton meanwhile looks every bit like the player he was expected to be even after redshirting last year. Patton collected his first career double-double in Creighton’s win over Buffalo, scoring 21 and grabbing 10 rebounds. An 11-point, seven-rebound effort would follow in the Bluejays’ win over Akron on Saturday, doing enough for him to receive enough consideration to pick up his second Big East Freshman of the Week honor of the year and second in as many weeks.
