The DePaul Blue Demons have been an inconsistent team for much of the year. Generally, they play poorly in the first half, and then figure it out in the second half. Thursday night, the script was flipped. DePaul and Wyoming went into the half tied at 29, and the Cowboys ultimately won, 72-58, outscoring DePaul by 14 in the second frame.
The Blue Demons were led in scoring by Tre’Darius McCallum, who had 18 points. Billy Garrett had 17. Eli Cain had just five, and shot 2-18, in one of the worst performances of his collegiate career. It will be very interesting to see how Cain bounces back Friday night against USC or Missouri State.
DePaul scored 19 points off 22 Wyoming turnovers, but couldn’t slow down the Cowboys’ hot shooting in the second half, in which Wyoming shot 55% from the field. The Cowboys were led by Hayden Dalton’s double-double. Dalton scored 18 points and hauled in 12 rebounds.
DePaul closes out the nonconference schedule with one more game in Las Vegas on Friday night against either USC or Missouri State, before heading to Villanova next Wednesday.
