Gamblin’ Info

Marquette comes into this game favored by 26.5 points, per OddsShark. The over/under is set at 168.5. The Golden Eagles are 5-5 ATS this year.

All-Time Series

The Red Flash (which is one of the better team names in college basketball) and Golden Eagles are tied 1-1 all-time, with St. Francis picking up the victory last time the two teams met, 60 years ago today (12-19-56).

Preview

Marquette finds itself in the same awkward position as it was near the end of nonconference play last season. The Golden Eagles are going to beat St. Francis Monday night and then beat SIU-Edwardsville on Wednesday night. They’ll be 9-3 going into conference play with their two best wins being over middling SEC teams in Vanderbilt and Georgia. Last season, the Golden Eagles were 10-2 going into conference play with their two best wins being over an overrated LSU team and a Wisconsin team that was two weeks from losing its coach.

Simply put, the Golden Eagles are going to need to help themselves in a big way in Big East play.

It’s hard to find too many good things to say about St. Francis. I’m not saying that to be mean, but to be truthful. The Red Flash are in the bottom 50 in college basketball in both offense and defense. They turn the ball over a ton and teams carve them up from beyond the arc (43.7% on the year, national average is 34.9%).

This game, along with the SIU-E game will be good opportunities for Steve Wojciechowski and the Golden Eagles to make final tweaks to the lineup and rotation before Georgetown comes to Milwaukee to open Big East play on December 28.
