Xavier can celebrate again as they snapped their two-game losing streak Saturday night with their 77-69 victory over the Utah Utes.
After reeling in road losses to Baylor and Utah, the Musketeers downed their visiting opponent from Salt Lake City and the Pac-12 Conference. The Musketeers were challenged despite leading 40-29 at the half and had accumulated a few double-digit leads. X however was still able to survive the onslaught from the Utes and regain entry into the win column.
Leading the way was RaShid Gaston who recorded a double-double, scoring 11 and grabbing 14 rebounds. JP Macura led the team in points with 18 points as he was one of four to enter double figures. Macura, Gaston, Trevon Bluiett and Edmond Sumner were the quartet as Bluiett finished the game with 16 and 11 points of their own. Malcolm Bernard finished two points shy of double figures himself.
Utah shot 51.9 percent from the field but were plagued by a bad performance from the 3-point line. The Utes shot just 26.3 percent on 19 attempts, and compared to the 47.1 percent mark the Musketeers had, it may have made a major impact on the game.
