Series History

Per Sports-Reference.com’s Play Index, this will be the first time the Hoyas and Pokes have ever met since at least the 1949-50 season. So Maui will be hosting a spectacle in itself.

The Stakes

The Hoyas and Cowboys will be partaking in the 3rd Place game after going 1-1 in the Maui Invitational on the winner’s side of the bracket. Georgetown and Oklahoma State were unsuccessful in taking down Wisconsin and North Carolina respectively as those two schools will be meeting in a rematch of a Sweet 16 encounter in 2015.

Players to watch

Phil Forte -- Oklahoma State

I know what you’re thinking: REALLY? He’s STILL in school? Yes, Phil Forte is still at Oklahoma State, and Forte is still performing at a very high level. Forte was shooting 42.9 percent from the 3-point line entering Tuesday, 70.6 percent on 2-point attempts, 53.33 percent on field goal attempts in general and 96.0 percent on free throws. Can you say efficiency?

Everyone -- Georgetown

Everyone should be watched and accounted for in this game for the Hoyas as they looked sluggish for almost the entirety of the game. Georgetown had just one (1!) offensive rebound all game
