The Stakes

For Providence, the Friars are looking to keep their undefeated record intact all-time against the Catamounts. Providence is 7-0 all-time against Vermont and Ed Cooley is hoping that streak will continue to get the 2016-17 season off to a good start against a Vermont team that is expected to win over 20 games again and was picked the win the America East by that league’s coaches.

Vermont is looking for a key non-conference victory against a Big East team on the road. The Catamounts are 1-15 all-time against current Big East members and getting a road win against a team from the conference of the defending national champions would be a nice notch in John Becker’s belt.

Inside the Numbers

Last season Providence was 52nd nationally in 3P% defense, allowing opponent’s to shoot 32.3% from beyond the arc, according to Kenpom.com. Vermont was 30th nationally in 3P% offense, draining 3-balls at a 38.2% clip. The Catamounts shot 7/15, or 46.7% in their season opener against Quinnipiac on Saturday. The battle of the 3P% numbers could be the key number to watch in this game Monday night.
