The Morning Fast Break (Nov. 1, 2016): Andrew Rowsey, the preseason AP Poll, and Villanova gets some sweet KD’s

November has begun! Meaning we’re THAT much closer to college hoops getting under way.

Greetings! It’s the first of the month, so make sure you get your rent in. The Morning Fast Break is also coming at you this morning, as we’ve taken yet another step closer towards the start of the 2016-17 college basketball season.

Here’s a status report on your favorite conference. Let’s get out in transition.

‘Rowdy’ Andrew Rowsey (Anonymous Eagle)

Rowsey comes to Marquette after spending two years at North Carolina-Asheville. He was all-Big South First Team as a freshman as well as Freshman of the Year, and was “only” all-conference second team as a sophomore. Rowsey led UNCA in scoring and assists as a freshman, then followed that up with the team lead in scoring and steals as a sophomore.

X, or, 7 Marks the Spot (Banners on the Parkway)

The preseason AP poll is out and the best team in Ohio is nestled in the top 10 yet again. Fresh off a season in which they set records for highest position in both polls, duration of time near the tops of the polls, and spent significant time in the top 10, Xavier is ranked seventh by the members of the Associated Press to start this year.

I hope you HAKAS, Georgetown (Casual Hoya)

Happy Halloween, Casualties! For some of you, welcome back. Before we get rolling with player profiles and Big East team previews this week, let's take a look at all the bits & pieces of news that tell the story of the Hoyas' off-season. The goal is to cover 6 months of developments in 15 minutes of reading, then leave the hellscape of last winter behind us for good.

St. John’s wins! (Rumble in the Garden)

St. John’s gave the home fans a steady diet of hope tonight, winning 99-49 in an exhibition over the Baruch Bearcats. The Red Storm struggled to score early on, sticking around due to their defensive efforts. Four minutes in, the offense arrived and it was all thanks to Bashir Ahmed. Ahmed finished with 19 points (7-for-11 shooting), sparking St. John’s offense whenever it looked stale.

‘Nova gets some fresh kicks (VU Hoops)

For the sneakerheads out there, it appears Villanova got some exclusive editions of the ninth edition of Kevin Durant’s Nikes today.
