Four-star 2017 point guard Tremont Waters commits to Georgetown

Georgetown opens its class of 2017 with a bang.

Just a few days after taking an unofficial visit to Georgetown for Hoya Madness, Tremont Waters of South Kent, Connecticut committed to the Georgetown Hoyas on Wednesday afternoon.

Waters, who sits at #37 on the 247Sports Top 247 and #32 on the ESPN Top 100 is the highest-ranked guard to commit to Georgetown since D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera in 2011.

Waters had also been considering Kentucky, Indiana, and Kansas, taking official visits to those three schools in addition to Georgetown. The 247Sports Crystal Ball had Georgetown as the overwhelming favorite.

Waters’ highlight video from last summer’s Peach Jam can be found below. He has a lot of talent on both ends of the court.

This is obviously a significant day for both John Thompson III and the Hoyas in general. Having a top 40 recruit waiting in the wings might alleviate some of the pressure JT3 is feeling from the fanbase, as we’ve seen in the past with Washington Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar.

The Hoyas now have two scholarships remaining for 2017-18, pending any transfers or NBA departures, obviously. The focus will likely turn to Baltimore forward Andre Rafus, who has the Hoyas in his final four teams and was set to announce at the end of September before postponing.
