Villanova Wildcats senior center Daniel Ochefu has been ruled out for the No. 6 team in the country's matchup with the St. John's Red Storm this Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Ochefu, the 6-foot-11, 245-pound rim protector for the 'Cats who'd averaged 9.7 points and 8.3 rebounds coming into Sunday, suffered a concussion recently according to Delaware County Daily Times writer Terry Toohey. Toohey would go on to say that the big man suffered the concussion in practice on Friday and did not make the trip with the 'Cats to New York City.
Suffice it to say, this is a major loss for the Wildcats on Sunday especially with the fact that the Red Storm are already a dominant shot-blocking team with the likes of Kassoum Yakwe guarding the cup. Without Ochefu's presence in the lineup they will have to creative to score points inside and the usually jump shot-heavy 'Cats may be adding a little more to their gameplan.
Best of luck to Ochefu and we wish him a speedy recovery.
UPDATE (12:19 p.m. ET): Molly McGrath of FOX Sports says Ochefu took an elbow to the head during practice and there's no timetable currently for his return.
