How to watch Georgetown vs. UConn: Game time, TV schedule, odds plus 3 things to watch

It will be a former BIG EAST matchup as Georgetown take on UConn at the XL Center as the teams meet for the first time in three years

Frank Victores-USA TODAY Sports

If Villanova are at the top of the BIG EAST, then the Georgetown Hoyas are right behind them. Georgetown come into this game with a record of 12-7 and are 5-2 in conference play. Although they don't have as many wins as some of the other teams in the conference, their conference record is the reason why they are second.

They most recently beat Xavier 81-72 on Tuesday, handing Chris Mack and the Musketeers just their second loss of the season. What was even more impressive, was that this came off of a close loss to Villanova over the weekend. Georgetown were in the game for much of it but thanks to Josh Hart the Wildcats were able to pull away.

Their opponent will be a former BIG EAST conference foe in the Connecticut Huskies. UConn has a 13-5 record and are 4-2 in conference play, which puts them 3rd in the American Athletic Conference. They played a pretty tough noconference schedule, facing the likes of Michigan, Texas, Gonzaga, and Maryland. It has been an easier time for UConn in conference play but things are about to get tougher. They still have to play SMU and Cincinnati, who they will play after this game, twice.

This will be a big game for Georgetown as they look for momentum heading into a stretch of games where they play Providence and Butler back to back. This will be a test for the Hoyas. On the road, against a former conference opponent, and battling the weather in the East Coast.

3 Things to Watch

1. Can D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera keep it up?

D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera has been huge for the Hoyas this season as he is leading Georgetown in scoring at 16.4 points per game, and leading the team in assists with 4.4 per game. He has been going off in the past couple of games including a 33 point outburst against St.John's where he hit five three's in a twenty point win for Georgetown. He will have to keep it up against a stingy UConn defense, and the senior will be the focal point of the Georgetown offense as he has been all year. Let's see how much he scores in this game.

2. Let down for UConn?

This will be the first big opponent that UConn has faced in a long time. The last big opponent they faced was Texas and that was a while ago. Compare that to Georgetown as they have faced both Villanova and Xavier in back to back games. It will be a big crowd and atmosphere for the game and the Huskies have to show up.

3. Momentum game for the Hoyas?

If Georgetown walks out of the XL Center with a win it would be a big win for John Thompson's squad and could be one that can help the Hoyas keep the momentum. Georgetown faces Providence and Butler in two of the next three games. It will be huge they walk out of that run with at least a win against either of the ranked teams. Georgetown is second in the standings but that's not how many view them in terms of the best teams in the BIG EAST. They will have to prove everyone that they are good as their record says.
