Providence: When Rodney got his groove back?
For those who watched the first game between Butler and Providence just under three weeks ago, the biggest player of the night came as a bit of a surprise. With players like Kris Dunn, Ben Bentil, Kellen Dunham and Roosevelt Jones on the floor, it was Providence sophomore forward Rodney Bullock who led all players in scoring with 25 points on 6-of-9 shooting from behind the three-point line. Dunn and Bentil both got into foul trouble early in that game, which opened up the opportunity for Bullock to assert himself more, and in his last three games, Bullock's gone a bit quiet. He's averaged just six points per game over that stretch on a combined 7-of-24 shooting, but if he has as much open space against the Bulldogs as he did the first time around, this might be his next big outing.
Butler: Can the Bulldogs get enough *good* looks from three?
For a team with so many solid three-point weapons, Butler has been a bit spotty from deep since the start of Big East play. They've had a few performances safely above the 40 percent mark (i.e. against DePaul, St. John's and a loss at Xavier), but other times, they'll go completely quiet behind the line (i.e. last week's contest with Villanova). Their first showdown with the Friars fell into that latter category, as Providence held them to just 17.6 percent from three. The Bulldogs led that game at halftime before Dunn and Bentil joined Bullock in dominating the second half, but the Friars clearly gave the Butler offense fits with their length at the point of attack. Relishing in the rare defensive combo of taking away the rim and cutting off all space on the perimeter, Providence made the Bulldogs just flat-out struggle to get good looks. There's a pretty strong correlation between Butler shooting well from three and winning, so they'll have to creative to get their percentage back up on Tuesday.
Enjoy the game!
