Yahoo! Sports basketball reporter extraordinaire Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Providence Friars guard and 2014-15 Big East Co-Player of the Year Kris Dunn is set to return for his junior campaign at the school.
Wojnarowski says that a formal announcement for Dunn's return is "expected soon."
It goes without saying that, should this hold true, this is major news for both the Friars and the Big East Conference. Ed Cooley & Co. will reap the rewards of having the top-flight point guard, who averaged 15.6 points, 7.5 assists and 2.7 steals last season en route to sharing Player of the Year honors with Villanova Wildcats guard Ryan Arcidiacono, back in the fray. Additionally, the conference keeps a prized player intact and gets a jolt as PC will likely be one of the better teams in the country in the 2015-16 season.
As stated by Wojnarowski in the article, Dunn has some lofty expectations from some NBA Draft personnel:
Dunn is the highest-rated underclassmen still publicly undecided about entering the June NBA draft. NBA executives believe the 6-foot-4 Dunn could have ascended into the late loterry - or the mid-part of the first round.
Draftexpress.com has Dunn pegged at No. 13 in its most recent mock draft.
We'll be sure to have more on this story as it develops and when the formal announcement is made. So, stay tuned...
