Another matchup of unbeaten teams will occur on Friday night in southern California as Kris Dunn and the Providence Friars will take on Gabe York and the No. 11 Arizona Wildcats in the semifinals of the 2015 Wooden Legacy event. The Friars and Wildcats moved on to the semifinals on Thanksgiving night with wins over the Evansville Purple Aces and Santa Clara Broncos.
The Friars got major contributions out of their superstar point guard Dunn as well as sophomore big man Ben Bentil who dropped a career-high 24 points against the Purple Aces. Ed Cooley's bunch has now started the year 5-0 for three consecutive seasons, a feat having not been accomplished at all prior to Cooley's tenure in the 21st century. They will look to go to 6-0, which would match their start from the 2014-15 season.
Arizona, meanwhile, survived a 44-point outburst by Santa Clara guard Jared Brownridge. The Wildcats escaped with a 75-73 victory in overtime in the quarterfinals of the Wooden Legacy to remain unbeaten. With the win last night, Arizona has started 5-0 for the fourth consecutive season and has now accomplished the feat in five of the last six seasons. The leading man for the 'Cats in the scoring department on Thursday night was Boston College transfer Ryan Anderson, who scored 17 points.
