The Stakes
The Providence Friars take on the Evansville Purple Aces in the first round of the Wooden Legacy Tournament played in California over the Thanksgiving weekend. Game action begins on Thanksgiving day at Titan Gym on Cal State Fullerton's campus and ends on Sunday at the Honda Center in Anaheim. This could be one of the better early season guard matchups when Kris Dunn squares off with D.J. Balentine. Dunn flirted with a triple-double his last time out and is averaging 18.8 points/game, 7.8 rebounds/game, 6.8 assists/game, 5.3 steals/game and 1.3 blocks/game. Balentine, the leading active scorer in the NCAA this season with over 1,800 career points, has been a First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference performer the last 2 seasons after being on the All-Freshman Team his first year at Evansville. He is a prolific scorer and is averaging 21.3 points/game and 6.0 assists/game to start the season for the Purple Aces. This promises to be a close and entertaining game with two fairly even teams. Providence has the best player but Evansville is one of the most experienced teams in the country with all 5 starters back from last year's team that won the CIT title.
