Butler vs. Miami (FL): Halftime Notes

In a rough first half, the Bulldogs trail the Hurricanes 42-29 at halftime of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off championship game

Thomas J. Russo-USA TODAY Sports

- Before the contest, we wrote about how difficult it would be for Butler to stay in this game if they struggled to control the pace, and so far that's been a huge problem. Part of that starts with shot-making, and the Bulldogs are shooting just 40 percent (11-of-27) from the floor in the first half. The Hurricanes are getting out and running in transition, and with so many five-on-three looks in space, they're getting to the basket with ease.

- Both Tyler Wideman and Kellen Dunham picked up two fouls in the first half, each having to come out of the game for some stretches. Unfortunately for Chris Holtmann, he needs his starters in as much as possible, as the Hurricanes outscore the Bulldogs in bench points 19-to-5.

- Aside from guard Davon Reed, every Miami player that has taken the floor tonight has scored, led by center Tonye Jekiri with eight points. A true seven-footer, Jekiri has feasted on the smaller Bulldog defenders inside, grabbing seven rebounds along the way.

- Roosevelt Jones has been key to keeping the Bulldogs in the game, finishing the first half with 12 points and three assists.
