Coming off a tough loss to Belmont on Friday night, the Marquette Golden Eagles are back at it Monday night as they'll take on the IUPUI Jaguars at the Bradley Center. Here are three things to know about the game.
Henry Ellenson Lives up to the Hype
Seriously. After he had 16 points and 17 rebounds in Marquette's exhibition win over Valley City State, we all chalked it up to weak competition.
Then, he went out and got 21 and 16 against Belmont. The hype is real.
Sure, there are a few things he could improve upon, but it was also his first career college basketball game. I'm thrilled to get a chance to watch him play every night, even if it's just for this season. IUPUI's going to have their hands full, especially considering Ellenson will likely be guarded by 6-7 freshman Evan Hall.
Darell Combs Can Score
There aren't a lot of scoring options on this young IUPUI team, so the main scorer in their season-opening victory over Indiana State was junior Darell Combs. Combs, who had 16 points, was playing in his first career game for the Jaguars after transferring from Eastern Michigan.
If the Golden Eagles can contain Combs, they should be able to stop the Jaguars.
Must Win for Marquette
Don't need to go into too much detail here. There's no shame in losing to Belmont, but losing to Belmont and IUPUI with your next two games being Iowa and LSU? That might become an issue.
The Golden Eagles still have some wiggle room, though, and they'd keep that wiggle room with a win here.
