The Stakes

Marquette will look to extend a 14-game winning streak in season opening (and home opening) contests with their last loss coming to South Alabama on November 14, 2000. Since then, MU has been perfect, taking teams like Villanova, Loyola Chicago, St. John's, IUPUI, Colgate, Southern and Tennessee Martin to task.

It's not going to be an easy task this year though. The Golden Eagles welcome the Belmont Bruins to Milwaukee, an OVC powerhouse who is currently predicted to win the league this year. The Bruins might not have the season opener success to hang their hat on, but consistency has been the name of the game for Belmont in the past, as they have won 20 or more games in each of the last five season including a 30-win season in the 2010-11 campaign.
