The Stakes

The Villanova Wildcats and Fairleigh Dickinson Knights aim to net their first wins of the season.

'Nova is looking to stay successful in season openers. The Wildcats have won 12 consecutive season opening games and have not lost their first game of the year since November 15, 2002 when future BIG EAST representative Marquette upended them 73-61 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The leading scorer that night? Just some dude named Dwyane Wade.

With regards to home openers though, Villanova has built up an insane streak of wins. The last time that Villanova lost a home opener per Sports-Reference.com? A 77-74 loss to Princeton on December 11, 1976.

Seriously. It has been 40 years since the 'Cats dropped a home opener loss.

Talk about stakes.

Fairleigh hasn't nearly been as successful as Villanova - then again, who is? - but they have built up a two-game win streak in the last two seasons in season openers. Can FDU pull off the upset and make it three in a row? Well, we'll see.
