Referee Karl Hess has been fired by the Atlantic Coast Conference and according to reports, the veteran referee may be on his way out of several other conferences as well.
ESPN college basketball insider Jeff Goodman reports that Goodman is scheduled to work his final game with the American Athletic Conference this Sunday when the Houston Cougars battle the Memphis Tigers.
The Big East Conference, per Goodman's article, is doing an investigation into the veteran official, led by its supervisor of officials John Cahill.
Hess is being accused of making a racially charged comment to a former trustee of Wake Forest University during the Demon Deacons game with the Louisville Cardinals on January 5.
UPDATE: (3 p.m. ET) Karl Hess has withdrawn himself from the Houston-Memphis game, per Jeff Goodman.
Carl Hess has now withdrawn from all American Athletic Conference games -- beginning immediately. Will not work Houston game on Sunday.
