Big East weekly awards: Sterling Gibbs and Khadeen Carrington earn honors

Jim O'Connor-USA TODAY Sports

The Seton Hall Pirates took down the undefeated Villanova Wildcats last Saturday as well as the then No. 15 St. John's Red Storm on New Year's Eve. As a result, two Pirates have taken home hardware for their efforts.

Guards Sterling Gibbs and Khadeen Carrington were named Big East Player and Rookie of the Week for their stupendous efforts in The Hall's victories last week.

Gibbs record two 20+ point efforts in the Pirates' matchups, including a 25-point outburst against the St. John's Red Storm. Gibbs averaged 24.5 points and 6.0 assists in Seton Hall's two victories, proving to be an integral part of the reason this Pirates club is 12-2.

Carrington, meanwhile, broke out for two stellar performances. This includes an 11 point, two rebound and three steal game against the St. John's Red Storm, and a 17-point, three rebound, one block and steal outing in Seton Hall's upset of previously undefeated Villanova on Saturday. In those two contests, Carrington shot a combined 16-of-18 from the free throw line, showing strong efforts in the clutch when asked.

Below is the Big East Honor Roll for this past week.
